Abstract The Urdu is one of the major Modern Indian Languages, which is widely spoken in India. It is almost second largely spoken language in many states. At the same time, the readers and teachers of this language are in minority. Teaching of Urdu as a language may require some efforts, but teaching of all subjects in Urdu medium requires more creativity and labour of teachers. This means that training of teachers to teach in this medium needs a careful design of the programme, which should be tailor made for the requirement of the beneficiaries. That is why, there are issues and problems pertaining to academic, administrative and evaluation aspects of the teacher education programmes. The training of different types of teachers i.e. pre-service or in-service have their own priorities and issues to be addressed. Abstract The information communication technology (ICT) is playing vital role in present era dominated by technological innovations. The use of ICT is continuously increasing and the use of ICT involves dynamic processes including various concepts, methods, applications. Hence, there is no proper definition of ICT, but for simple understanding the three terms information, communication and technology guide us to make us understand ICT. Precisely this is use of technology for communicating the content and information to the intended communicatee or student.  Thus, ICTs are a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.”  The ICTs have been exploited to larger extent by the learners in distance education, as lot of information is being transferred to the learner through use of innovative technologies.  The student support unit (SSU) is a core and central unit of any distance education institution. This is a liaison agent between the institute and the students. The bridge between the two groups is covered by the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT). Thus, the success of SSU depends on the better utilisation of ICT and also the quality staff engaged in the use of ICT. The distance mode learners who are spread across the length and breadth of the nation can only submit their concerns through ICT to SSU in the smallest span of time and more accurately. The ICT also provides information regarding receipt of their concerns and also helps in providing solutions. The SSU teaching and non-teaching staff need to have mastery over ICT in attending to students' concerns. One of the best and simplest uses of ICT is toll-free number and email interaction for approaching the concerned. This helps in achieving the motto of the university i.e. to reach the unreached and plays the ce
