Rethinking Education of Minorities especially in the context of Muslim Education and Policy Perspective

Abstract: The Muslims form the largest minority in India, but at the same time, it is a fact that they are the most deprived section of the society after SC/ST. The only difference among these sections is that the SC/ST community ensures opportunities for education and jobs, whereas this facility is not available for Muslims. This does not mean that the government has not put any effort into the education of minorities. There are plenty of provisions like constitutional provisions, educational rights, National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004, PM’s new 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities and the most noteworthy work for Muslim Minority in recent times is Sachar Committee Report and its follow up action. Despite all these initiatives and efforts, there is still the poor performance of the Muslim minority. Although microteaching is a concept which is prevailent from 1960's, but now the teacher education institutes are making use of new gadgets for using this training method. Urdu Keli-Kali Radio Programme Karnataka 2003

The DEP-DPEP IGNOU started its massive Distance Education Programme by placing its Distance Education Co-ordinator, DEP-DPEP Karnataka in 2000 at Bangalore. Initially the radio-based lessons were started for schools in Kannada language, which received appreciation from students, teachers, officials, educator, researchers and policy makers. The cost of the programme was fraction of paise per programme per child. Based on the demands of the stakeholders the authorities decided to extend these programme in second most popular language of Karnatak i.e. in Urdu. B.Ed. (DM) MANUU, Assignments 2011

The Maulana Azad National Urdu University is running a two-year B.Ed. (DM) programme at 7 programme centres i.e. Bangalore, Darbhanga, Hyderabad, Pune, Secunderabad, Jammu and Srinagar. In this programme the student-teachers are required to submit three assignments in each of their course. The first year programme has 5 courses and second year programme has 3 courses. EDUSAT Proposal for SSA Karnataka

The DEP-DPEP, IGNOU and DEP-SSA Karnataka prepared its merger and the distance education activities of Karnataka were shaped by the then Distance Education Co-ordinator, Mushtaq Ahmed I. Patel.
