Prof. Yash P. Aggarwal, Prof. Emeritus's, Kurukshetra's visit to MANUU

Introduction of Prof. Yash P. Aggarwal*

I am happy to introduce Prof. Yash P. Aggarwal an eminent teacher educator to the University in general and Department of Education and Training in particular and be part of a guest lecturer in the Department of Education and Training, MANUU, Hyderabad. It is my pleasure to introduce Prof. Aggarwal, who himself is well aware of Urdu and loves Urdu. This is not his first but, second visit to MANUU and to the department. In my informal interaction, he informed me that he has studied Urdu till his 10th standard, and used this language along with Persian for interaction and correspondence with his father, which rarely most of us do today, as today’s whatsApp, Facebook, email takes us away from our languages and make us interact in an alien language English with our own people, which is knowingly or unknowingly adopted by all of us.
Dr. Aggarwal had a humble beginning as he started his career as a school teacher thereafter he rose to become a Lecturer in Kurukshetra University, and reflecting upon his growth he admits that his aspirations, dreams or ‘Khwab’ led him to higher education. He completed his Ph.D. by getting a Commonwealth scholarship at Harward University. He joined Kumaon University in the natural settings of Nainital and rose to the position of Professor in Education. He has retired from University system way back in 1997, but not tired as he is running a school experimenting innovative teaching methodologies with poor and downtrodden children and bringing them back to school. He is doing research on teaching and learning on young students and engaged in training young faculty and research scholars in Technology of Teaching and Research at several Universities and Colleges. Presently, he is residing at Kurukshetra and also working as a Professor Emeritus, for Kurukshetra University giving various inputs to higher level bodies in the Universities.
In his illustrious career he has obtained national and international awards. The International research awards include Fulbright Research Fellowship in 1994; Shastri Indo Canadian Research Fellowship, 1993; Commonwealth Research Fellowship (1969-72) and the national research awards include UGC Emeritus Fellowship 1997-1999, Nomination to Swami Pravadananda National Award, Emeritus Professor for life at Kurukshetra University. He has delivered many Foreign Lectures, which include lectures at Harvard, Ottawa, Toronto, Indiana in USA and Canada. He has thirty five years of teaching experience at P.G. level at two Universities and supervised twenty five Ph.D. theses. He has written more than 50 articles and twelve books which include popular books like, Better sampling: concepts, techniques, and evaluation; New Dimensions in Education: Concepts and Research; Sampling Methods for Social Investigation; Higher Education in India: A Survey; Introduction to Statistics for Social Sciences. All these have brought name and fame to the reputed academician like Prof. Aggarwal.
On family front is blessed with a happy family, wife Ms. Usha a retired Professor at senior secondary grade, daughter who is a medico and son who is software engineer and heading a company as a Vice Chairman. As both the children are settled abroad, this makes his schedule busy, as he keeps travelling extensively and shuttling between India and USA.
Without taking much of the time, I welcome you Sir to the University and request you to enlighten all our students, scholars and all others interested in the field of educational research. I thank Prof. H. Khatija Begum, Dean, School of Education and Training and Prof. Mohammed Mehamood Siddiqui for facilitating arrangement of this guest lecture. Thank you and Welcome one and all.
